    If you'd rather pay for an appraisal, go to the Gunbroker home page & look under Cool Stuff.

    Or, if you want to do the work yourself, go to the Gunbroker home page & click on Smart Search. Check Completed Auctions for a comparable gun & see what it sold for.

    The appraisal from here will not be acceptable to an insurance company, but if you want a decent idea of the worth of a firearm, we can help. Photos are an enormous help, otherwise an extremely detailed evaluation of the condition of the firearm along with complete information on make and model, are necessary.

    (But you're more likely to get a good appraisal).

    In seriousness, if you ask for an appraisal *and post good pictures of the gun in question, from multiple angles*, you'll get the informed opinions of maybe half-a-dozen "gun guys" with varying backgrounds and degrees of knowledge.

    While ultimately, the only "appraisal" that counts is the one the free market gives you when you sell the gun, I think in general the cross-section of opinions you'll get here is pretty good, and you should end up with a reasonably fair estimate of the likely true market value of your gun(s).

    Again, this is not a formal process. . .you're not going to get a signed sheet of paper saying "the gun is worth X" that you can use to document its value for insurance purposes, but you probably WILL get a pretty good idea of what your gun might be worth in a fair sale.
