remington barrel thread sizng

I asked a question earier but relized that I did not give enough or proper info for the question I asked, so here goes again. I have a new barrel off of a remington 700 vss in .224 ( 22-250) which is a heavy varmit, I was interested in putting on my 8mm german mauser ( because of the internal barrel condition- pitting and rust) Is the threading simlar, is there enought "metal to recut" the threads or will the barrel have to be shortened and recut to fit the mauser receiver. The barrel is 26 in. Thank you, Joe.

  I believe that your shank will have to turned down and rethreaded. De haas give the OD of the Mauser threads as being 1.100 OD with 12 "V" TPI. The older Remington's, 721,722 & 725, 1.050 OD with 16 V TPI.

  You can't use a standard Remington M700 barrel on a Large Ring M98 Mauser since the tenon sizes and thread pitches are substantially different.
  
  M700 = 1.062 x 16 TPI (no matter what De Haas tried to measure)
  
  M98 = 1.100 x 12 TPI
  
  Some folks (cobblers) think it's really tricky to turn the threads off of the M700 tenon and thread it for Small Ring Mauser (0.890 x 12 TPI) but it always struck me as being a waste of time and effort.
  
  Get a decent new or reasonably good used Mauser M98 barrel and do it right.
