A need to know? OLD S&W frame

I have a OLD S&W frame and I DO NOT know what model it might be?? It looks like as J-frame S&W, BUT the inside is different? Everything is almost the same, but the grip area(round-butt) has two slots for a mainspring and there is NO pin to hold the rebound assy to the trigger. the frame has 5-screws SN 23XXX, inside cyl area 42xx. Sorry No photos

  The frame is the gun as far as the feds are concerned. Besides the serial number, if it were made in the U.S., it would have to have the manufactures name. Unless that information has been buffed/polished off? My guess is that it might be one of the older Spanish made knock-offs. A lot of the very early imports dating back many years, to the 20's, had almost no markings.

  If it is a S&W, it should have the logo on the left side. Going by the serial number, if it is, then it was made in 1953.
  Post some clear close up pictures with the grips off and we can tell you more about it.
