well I met my match
I got this ruger 22/45 back in may, and I shot 100 rounds throught it. Everything seem to be ok, I wasn't over-whelmed with excitment about the gun, but I wasn't unhappy. It seem to be what I expected.
When I bought this gun, the dealer said NEVER take it apart. Everyone say never take it apart. So I took it apart. I read the manual twice, took notes. I watched the video at ruger.com, didn't really tell me anything different than what I read about so I watched 2 other videos on youtube just to be sure.
So being the type that HAS to know how to do something here I am taking my gun apart. I have no fears, taken many guns apart before. Had problems here and there, no big deal.
BIG DEAl! This gun virtually brand new came apart like a dream. I was surprised after years of hearing about how terrible these things are. I look things over, wipe here, wipe there.
Now I make sure everything is in place. I used a new white towel to make sure if anything fell out I would know. Nothing fell out. Everything seem ok.
So I try to reassemble this thing and everything is flawless. I mean I am thinking man, this gun must appeal to retards because this is just too easy.
UNTIL:
The final piece. Closing the main spring is a sob. I had to squeeze and then it closes tight. Didn't thihnk much about it until I pulled the bolt back and now it stays open! You can bump it and it will fall, but it is not smooth.
So, my question is what did I do wrong? I went step by step on each and every single process, reading and re-reading the instructions. So Now I cant get my mainspring out and I can't make it function with it in the closed position.
So I am hoping one of you experts can help me out. First and formost, be sure to tell me I am a putz, and then tell me how to fix this mess.

Put the mag in and pull the trigger, then take it apart again.Make sure you follow the directions on the position of the gun to drop the hammer on each step. 0 -
HHAAhHAAAHHHAHAHA....while rugers come apart the same trade off the 22/45 plastic frame for a mk2 ..all steel...made this mistake and will never have another plastic ruger.... 0 -

The hammer strut is not engaging the main spring. depending on what model vintage & Ruger you have some need to be turned upside down to make it easier to get back together also some models need the hammer cocked and others the hammer must NOT be cocked. 0 -
The easy way on a 22-45 is have the gun upside down and the hammer down. It's tricky but with practice you can do it. 0 -
IT can be done. When you figure out how to do it, do it 100 times and you will never have a problem again. Do it once than wait a year, nothing but trouble. 0 -
sometimes with the mag in place and hammer down turn it upside down and then shake it real hard it will drop into place I had one where that worked about 80% of the time 0 -
