AR Rear Sight Question
I bought a UTG Flip-up rear sight for my AR. It cost me around 30.00. Are they all pretty much standard o did i just waste my money?

You will answer this question yourself when you actually use it. If it works you've made a wise investment if it does not well then you get what you pay for. I've wondered this same question myself. Does it pay to spent $30.00 vs. $100.00. There are a ton of rear sights available from different manufacturers. You wonder just how many people out there actually make them as to how many people just put their name on something that someone else made. There are many inexpensive items out there that work quite well and some that don't. There are many higher priced items that work great and also some that don't. Here is a good example I bought a Surefire Nitrolon G2 flashlight a very good light. Its basically a $30.00-$35.00 light.
Put a $25.00 chinese cree bulb in it and bought a $29.00 Starfire remote padded switch. For around $90.00 I have a light that will blow away practically any tactical light priced 2 to 3 times more than that. From what I've seen from UTG they make a decent product and they sell a lot of different stuff and it also seems to sell quite well. While nearly every one here will try and tell you to buy a $800.00 scope for ex. it is not always feasible. Not every one can afford it. It's one thing to spend a lot of money on something if your life depends on it or you work with it every day but 98% of people don't.0 -
In general, the UTG products are low-to-medium end, but they do work.
The sight ought to work fine, though it probably won't be as precise or durable as the better brands (which cost 2-5x as much).
Put it this way, given the choice, I'd choose a different sight if I knew I were taking the gun into a firefight.
For a plinker on the range. . .probably fine.
Try it out. If it holds a zero and does what you need it to do, then you didn't waste your money.
Put differently, just because a BMW is better, that doesn't mean a Buick isn't good enough!0 -

It might work, I have heard second hand that UTG BUIs are hit and miss quality wise..
The best dependable low end sight in my opinion is the Midwest ERS. It is made to last a lifetime. The next step up from that is the midwest SPLP or the ARMS 40L. If you plan to mount a scope or magnifier, one of the latter two are a good investment..0
