1916 German Luger

What is the value of a 1916 German Luger with leather strap? It came off a German Officer. The numbers match and it does not say made in Germany. On top of the gun it says ERFURT with a picture of a crown above it.

    We Know you expect an answer to your post HOWEVER to give you more then a WAG we need pictures Condition is every thing on a 94 year old pistol. ERFURT is the German Governmental Arsenal / Armory just like Springfield was in the USA Is your pistol original finish or reblued what is the % of finish? . a 50 % reblue would be worth one tenth of a 95% original finish . We need more information.

    As far as I know it has never been reblued.

    Hello Your pistol looks to be in VERY GOOD condition IF that is original finish . However in my opinion I think it has most likely been refinished Here are some of the reasons I think this and also one thing you can check to prove it was refinished #1 the stamping of ERFURT looks smudged from a buffing wheel used to polish before refinish however this may be caused by poor focus on the picture #2 the top Toggle receiver area looks sort of purplish in color this is usually cause by incorrect temperature of bluing salts and 1915 pistols were blued by the RUST BLUE method not hot blued with bluing salts. # 3 the grip straps look TOO good for a gun that old . Now one way to prove it has been refinished is to Dismount the Top Barrel toggle from the frame. if the parts of the frame and the underside of the barrel toggle that are hidden from view when assembled is Blued then that is proof it was reblued the original finish was just bare shiny metal. . Please get back to us if you need directions on how to dismount the Barrel Toggle and also what you find . about the finish on the inside.
