concerned about my glock
i have had my first glock for less than a year and carry it on almost a daily basis im a armed gaurd i noticed today that my front sight has fallen off and this concerns me what if i would have needed it any suggestions would be nice im also checkin to see if anyone else has had this problem thanks

Most standard factory original Glocks have Mickey Mouse sights made out of plastic. The only thing that holds the front sight on is a tiny plastic wedge. www.brownells.com sells replacement front sights for Glocks made out of steel, for less then $30. Order one on Monday have them expedite it for fast shipment. You can install it yourself as they provide the special wrench with the sight. 0 -

OK, without turning this into an anti-Glock rant, the problem of a sight flying off the pistol is actually pretty common, particularly with the earlier model Glocks.
The stock Glock sights are low-quality and fragile. Its not just the front sight, but the rear as well, with the Glock adjustable rear sights being the absolute worst.
Usually the sights fall off under recoil while shooting. . .which if you think about it, is probably a WORSE problem than having it fall off at a random time (ie losing your front sight in the middle of a firefight probably isn't good).
Fortunately, there are a million different aftermarket Glock sights available relatively inexpensively, almost all of which are better than the lame factory originals.
Certainly you could replace just the lost front sight, but while doing this, you might also consider replacing the rear sight as well.
And getting back to the original question, what do you do if you get in a fight and have no front sight? You either
a. Give up and get killed.
b. Point-shoot the gun, watching where your shots land and compensating accordingly, or
c. You use the rear sight and sight along the centerline of the gun's top strap (ie you basically PRETEND there is a front sight there). Or you can sort of silhouette the rear and front of the slide together to act as a rough sighting system.
Believe it or not, its actually possible to shoot a pistol surprisingly accurately without sights at all.
Also, wince most shootings occur at close distances (ie less than 30 feet) and the human torso is fairly large, its quite possible to do well in a fight with less than pinpoint shooting.0 -

I consider myself Sold on Glock, and will adamantly defend them against the misinformed, but their factory sights have always sucked.
I've tortured tested more than one of them, and without fail, the first thing (and usually the only thing with the exception of the rear sight) to go is the front sight.
Aftermarket sights are your answer. Don't bother ordering Glock sights.0 -
We previously issued the glock 22 at our police department with the trijicon night sights and had problems with the front sights falling off, but not nearly as much as some with the normal glock sights..they fall off at will. When we turned them into the dealer to service, they corrected the problem with re-installing the sight with fingernail polish to hold them in...yeah you heard me right. Sad thing was that it worked. We have since transitioned from that weapon but not for those reasons. Personally I think the mass productions of glock pistols in the past 10 years have suffered in quality control. 0 -
Glock has two type of front sights...staked on or screw on...both require lock tight or another adhesive...nail polish could work....if you are missing your front sight I'd suggest replacing it with a night sight...
in most shooting situations you won't need night sights in the rear, but you will benefit from a front night sight for front sight post shooting...considering most armed Security works nights...Glock night sights are cheaper price wise than trijicon(IMHO they are brighter too), and have a longer warranty and also come in a screw on set up now(previously they were staked)
anyways, sights getting knocked off a pistol is not necessarily a fair judge of character for the over all gun, I've seen sights get knocked off many brands of pistols..it is dependent on how the pistol is used and abused..I've used Glocks for 14 years in a LE capacity and don't have any complaints, they have performed as they are supposed too...0 -
Get rid of it and buy a 1911, end of problems.

Laserlyte make a rear laser sight for Glocks. It is a WO rear sight with a built in laser. 0 -

I've seen both front and rear Glock sights come off LEO pistols several times during training sessions. It's their weakest component.
Don't even consider that adjustable factory rear sight. You're guaranteed to lose it when doing one-hand reload drills.0
