Combination muzzle brake-flash hider

Anyone have any experience with these on a 16" 223 carbine?

    I've used them on .223/5.56 and .308 Win. bolt rifles with carbine length barrels. I think it adds some convenience but like most folks, I find that one or the other works for the large majority of the time and pick one to stick with. It's the same idea as switch barrel rifles.

    The one I use most now is the Sure Fire adapter but that involves a sound suppressor/brake and not a flash hider. More machining and the fit is critical.

    Dave Fricke of Lehigh Bullets has a prototype design that may be in production by now:

    "On its unique com-bi-na-tion muz-zle brake/ flash hider either of the KAC/PDW's bar-rels will accept a KAC sound sup-pres-sor. This flash hider is one of the secrets of the PDW's high degree of con-trol-la-bil-ity and it reminds me of the device designed by Gene Stoner on the early AR-10 pro-to-types, and later on his FARC-3 rifle. This early some-what com-plex device appears to have been pat-terned after the muz-zle brake on the WW II Ger-man FG-42 rifle, but on the KAC/PDW it is quite sim-ple in oper-a-tion if not in man-u-fac-ture.

    With a restricted front end this muz-zle brake acts as a baf-fle to halt for-ward mov-ing high veloc-ity gasses behind the bul-let. This gas then pushes for-ward against the baf-fle to dampen felt recoil, with the gasses then vented out through one hun-dred or so tiny exhaust holes in the sides and top of the brake. In addi-tion to fur-ther con-trol-ling muz-zle flip, these holes break up muz-zle flash."

    Sure Fire makes several versions of Flash Hider/Sound Suppressor adaptors that I use frequently. They are not just for Flash Hiders but basically an adapter which does both jobs. Stand alone, it works as a Hider but then you can attach a Sound Suppressor by using the bayonet mount on the adapter. Easy on and off.

    Interesting, but probably noisy with the brake installed.
    I had in mind a Russian design (AK74?) having a baffle and a few holes in the housing followed by a conventional AR style slotted section.

    a short inclosed blast chamber followed by something like the vortex may do what you are wanting.. but Dont know of anyone who makes one like that
