Chamelot Delvigne Mle 1874 added pics

What should i expect this gun to bring. It is in good condition (full functional) 11 mm i think. There is a stamp on the side of the barrel that says S1871. There is one stamp on the top of the barrel that says Mle 1874. The frame says Mre d'Armes St Etienne. All the numbers match up. If anyone could give me some info on this gun I would be greatful. I can email you pictures if it would help. I also got a French Galand 12 mm revolver I have pics at http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=135676229 I could use some info on it also.

    Sorry the stamp on the side of the barrel on the Chamelot Delvigne says S1878 not S1871. it also has a T with a circle around it and an M with a circle around it.

    The Model 1874 was a revolver made for French officers. It differs from the more common 1873 enlisted mans revolver in that it had a blued finish rather then being left in the natural state as was the enlisted mans revolver. Also the fluted cylinder distinguishes between the two models.

    Due to very strict gun laws in France, these revolvers have much greater value over there then on this side of the pond. As long as it hasn't been rechambered, and it's in at least arsenal original, very good condition.

    Post quality photos, if you can, for help in a more accurate assessment of value.

    Only practical way your going to be able to sell it in France is through a U.S. based dealer with connections over there unfortunately.

    The chamber length is 1.182 The bore is .450 - .435

    Ref Galand auction: you will get no bids. Sorry, but serious collectors filter them [reserve auctions] out of their searches. (I'm not going to get into the minutae of "why" here.)

    Now, if you wish to re-list after the auction has run its course, and are serious about making the sale, do so without a reserve, and at least $150 less than the starting price listed. Best, Joe

    I can't tell from your photos if any of the original blue finish remains? Other then what appears to be light pitting, it appears to be in very good "antique" condition for a 131 year old military revolver.

    What you have to watch out for is that many of them have been rechambered for .45 acp cartridges, which is a big no no over in the land of the frogs. If it was, it wouldn't be sellable over there.

    I would start it on the auction at $400 without a reserve, and hope for the best. Times are tight now for a lot of folks, but it's a very desirable military handgun. Equivalent to one of our U.S. military Single Action Armies to the folks on the other side of the pond.

    I have a similar revolver as pictured only it is dated S 1876 where can I go to get a reasonable value for this weapon? Any info would be great and I plan on taking some pictures of it tomorrow and posting them if that would help.

    Mike, welcome to g.b. now as to "where can I go to get a reasonable value for this weapon?"..........right here (the auction side of gun broker), start with a REASNABLE starting bid and NO reserve, you will get exactly what it is worth. I try to start my auctions on Sun. and run for 2 weeks (or Thurs. and 10 days), seems to get more 'week-end browsers'.
