Springfield m1 garand in box with paperwork value?
A local guy is selling an m1 garand in the box. It is a springfield, 2m serial number range. The paperwork had a return address of "rock island arsenal'. Appears to be matching parts and unfired. Any thoughts on the value?

Could be worth thousands if it is correct. You say "all matching" but what do you mean by that? Does it have the correct lock bar rear sight? Has the operating rod been modified with the relief cut? What markings are on the stock? What is the barrel date? Without a detailed list of the drawing numbers of the parts and some good photos there is no way to give you any kind of value based on the information you provided. The RIA box shows that it was likely purchased direct from the old DCM so there is a very slight chance it could be a correct M1, but more likely (since you say it looks unfired)a post war rebuild sold after the war. Here are some pics. The seller claims that the cosmoline has dried up on the rifle. Asking price is $1200.

Rebuild marking on the stock, post war rear sight, stamped trigger guard instead of the correct milled guard...And who knows what else has been replaced. It is a nice rifle but worth nothing like $1200. 0 -

Please find out if you can get ahold of someone that can give it a look-see (with gauges) and determine if the gun has, or hasn't seen much use since it left the arsenal.
A "Rock" rebuild would not be released for issue to troops, or in your case, release to civilian marksmanship unless the internals were returned to "as new".
Yes, over 1K is a big nut. But if you can confirm [first paragraph], you will have a firearm that will give you a lifetime of enjoyment in normal use with proper cleaning/storage. Best, Joe0
