H&R fluted cylinder

there is a 622 revolver on gb.com with a fluted cylinder. i thought only the 9 shot 22's had fluted cylinders. will this cylinder work in the 649. 686, etc.? just trying to learn...mikey

  All the 622s in my collection have fluted 6 shot cylinders. Since the 649 is a direct derivative, the cylinder from the 622 "should" fit, maybe with a little coaxing on the ratchet it might even work. The 666, 660, 676 & 686 are "improved" designs and I'm pretty sure it (the 622 cylinder) wouldn't work. The only way to tell for sure would be to try swapping - all my pieces are boxed and packed at this time and I don't have the time to unpack and try.

  thanks, you guys are helping me a lot. another question, a couple of my 649's let the cyinder move a whole chamber when they have the hammer down. is this caused by a worn cylinder stop, or a timing problem or both? mikey
