front sight repair question

I have a Charter Arms small frame 38 revolver. The front sight is a blade and the rear is just a groove.
The front sight blade is broken and mostly missing.

This gun is an old family gun. I want to carry it occasionally as a "just in case" gun. I have several other carry weapons but just want to put this in service.

I thought about grinding what's left of the blade down smooth with the barrel or trying to dress up what's left.

What do you guys think?

    Sounds like a good idea to me.

    Charter's have been made by at least 3 companies; if yours was made by the company currently producing them, it might be worth asking them about the cost of repairing yours.

    Well, I hadn't thought about the manufacturer making a repair!

    The gun is probably around 20+ years old and has Charter Arms Hartford Ct on it.

    Ok, Charter Arms emailed me and the repair is $20 for the sight and $49.95 for labor, test fire and return shipping. So $69.95.

    Time for repair is not really an issue so this is the way I'll go.
