Left Handed 03 Springfield

This rifle was made by the Grandfather of a friend of mine. He was a gunsmith in the 40's, 50's, and 60,s. The old fellow passed away in the mid 70's and my friend eventually ended up with it after his Father died. I am curious about the scope mount, what kind is it and what scope mounts to it?

    Wow, they beleived in working with what they had available in those days.

    The scope base is an Echo, long out of production. Rings were available in various sizes to fit different scopes. Some rings were split, some were solid, requiring the scope be taken apart to install; not a good idea with modern sealed and nitrogen filled scopes. In its day, it would likely have had something like a Lyman Alaskan scope; but there were other choices.

    I have a set of rings that fit that, always wondered what they fit.They are marked ECHO E.C.HERKNER CO.tks hedge[:D]

    Your friend's Gram-Pops would never have let the gun leave his shop with screws in such deplorable condition. I hate it when folks just gotta "touchy-feely", and ruin good workmanship. Sad.
