Dan Wesson 357 Mag.

I have a "Dan Wesson Arms.357 Magnum Ctg."
A friend died last year and my daddy bought the gun for $100 ( which we thought was a good deal with it barely being shot) and it's in great condition. Does anyone know where I can find the model number on it I have looked up all kinds of sites. I was told it would be on the plate below the cylinder but there's nothing there. Someone said take off the handle I did that and nothing. Any help would be appreciated. It has a vented ridge on top of barrel and an orange tip at the end of the barrel and it has adjustable sites if this helps any. It even has the round Dan Wesson gold logo on the handle.Thanks

    Think it is likely you have a Dan Wesson Model 15. If it is good condition, $100 is a great price. While they do not have the collector's interest that Colt or S&W has, they are great shooters. Barrel length varies from 2" to (I think) 15", with 4" and 6" being the most common. If you were not aware, barrels can be changed on these in about 30 seconds. I have one I purchased in 1976, have run a TON of ammo thru it, and deer hunt with it (10' bbl).

    Dan Wesson did not stamp the model number on their guns. Stamped below the cylinder it would have said Dan Wesson Arms Monson Ma. USA and then the serial number. On the near end of the barrel it should say Dan Wesson Arms .357 magnum ctg.
    If yours is blued it should be a model 15, if it is stainless it would be a model 715. This all depends on the type of shroud also, there was an older model that had the shroud plus an l shaped extension where it attached to the frame. Dan Wesson also made some what you might call an economy gun that came with a barrel that wasn't interchangeable. Do a google search for Dan Wesson there is an active web site devoted to these fine guns put I can not provide it at this time because my computer is down and I'm on my wife's laptop. I know that there are others that could provide the website info perhaps one may reply.

    To give an accurate evaluation, we would need to see some clear, well lit, detailed pictures. If it is indeed a model 15/715 in ANIB condition, it is easily a $400.00 gun.

    However, Dan Wesson did make some fixed barrel models that the barrels were not interchangable too. They are roughly $100.00 less in the same condition as yours.
