Do 20ga Ithaca 51's break the slide assy...
The 12 gauge Ithaca model 51 was notorious for cracking/breaking the dual slide rail assembly/carrier. That was the semi-automatic that came with the lifetime warranty. Only trouble was that Ithaca went out of business. I was wondering if the 20ga version held up better than the 12ga, since the load/recoil etc would be 'lighter' and stress that part less. So I am hoping to hear from seasoned veteran gunsmiths who remember these guns when Ithaca was in its prime. Did a lot of 20ga model 51's come into your shops for repair for the broken dual slide rail assembly/carrier? Or did you mainly just get the 12 gauges in for repair?
