Savage 12 FV

The local Gander Mountain has one on the used shelf in like new condition (not even any copper in the bore or sign that a scope was mounted) for $489... which isn't a bad price. I don't like the ugly synthetic stock but Savage 12s are sweet shooters and in .308 it would be an easy reloading proposition with umpteem bajillion types of bullet.

What say you, should I do it or hold out for the BVSS with teh stainless barrel and laminate wood stock, even if it is $200+ more?

The other question though, does anyone know of someone making aftermarket wood stocks for these if I just can't stomach the plastic one?

    $489 seems a little high for a used 12fv. I purchased one new at Gander Mtn. two years ago in fredrecksberg Va. for $465. Great shooter, five shots, one hole any day of the week!

    I'll agree that is a little high for used. Even if I still remain amazed at how well they shoot.

    Personally for that price I would hold out for the BVSS or, IMO better yet, the HS Accu-stock. I know what I see them for on GB but I've seen them for $599 and $699 (same rifle) on the shelf at Cabela's and Gander.

    One thing I do know you can do and that is to go in and bargain for the 12FV. Nothing wrong with low-balling them and maybe coming out around $400.

    If you really want the 12BVSS then I'd say hold out for it. I have never been happy compromising on what I buy. It usually meant that I just ended up buying both, trading in the one I didn't really want (at a loss) for what I should have bought in the first place. I have a 12BVSS in 300 WSM and it's a terrific rifle.

    Sorry to sorta hijack the thread[:0] But, how does that thing hold the recoil? I have a CZ model 3 in 300 WSM, and while it's nice, I sure get pounded.
