Ruger SS84L U.S.Property Revolver

I have aquired a Ruger Speed Six 4 inch .38 with US Property Markings and The Factory designation SS84L . Anyone know the history of these guns? The serial number 156-478xx . 4 inch round butt blue with lanyard swivel

  Although I don't know the specific history of your revolver, the feds have purchased many commercial revolvers over the years for some of their different agencies/departments.
  
  Although it's possible the revolver you have is a overrun/surplus that was never actually acquired and issued by the Gov. It's also possible that it's hot, and is somebodies illegitimate souvenir from their former job. Best to be careful with it, unless you can verify the chain of ownership back to when Ruger made it.
  
  The www.rugerforum.com collectors site has a number of forums available with knowledgeable collectors, who will probably be able to give you it's history.
