Valmet 412 Locked Up
I have a Valmet 412 & it has the .308 barrels on it at this time.
The action is closed & it is not cocked. It will not open no matter what I try. I need to remove the .308 barrels to store it. Anyone have any ideas on how to get them off?

I have two of these Great firearms. Let me ask you a question . Did you by any chance ever spray them with WD 40 when you last put them away after shooting or Cleaning [?]. If so then the WD 40 has turned to Varnish and locked up the action. I have a friend that I sold 4 NIB Browning Superposed shot guns with factory luggage cases 35 years ago "NOT SALT TREATED ". He unknown to me intended to long term store them and sprayed them heavily inside and out with WD 40 and then about 5 years ago he decided to sell them and to his horror after opening the sealed plastic bay each was stored in he discovered they were all 4 locked closed . We had to remove the stock and with a Hair dryer and gloves heat as hot as the hair dryer would get them . Low and behold Then the guns all opened with no damage. [^][:D] I went to my shop and threw every can of WD 40 in the trash. You might have a similar problem I would remove the butt stock and forearm and then use a heavy dose of Kroil let soak for 24 hours and then try a hair dryer . dont get hot enough to have the oil smoke but do get it hotter then you can hold without heavy gloves like welding gloves. Perry Shooter, thanks for the input. No WD40 was used on it. I am planning on bringing it to a gunsmith next week & will leave your advice with him. Usually, I do not leave any of the barrels I have for it attached when I store it, but obviously I did this time & something happened. 0 -
Basically, the extractor slipped out of its slot & locked the action. That was probably caused by putting the forend on wrong. The gunsmith had to go at it with the stock off. He did install the filler between the barrels & all is right. 0 -
Never heard of that happening before. The extractor must have been jammed in there.[?] 0 -
Glad you got it fixed. . I know the extractor on the rifle shotgun barrel sets need to be tweaked to extract rimless rifle rounds so they dont jump the extractor cut out when fully open but I never had one lock the action closed . Cheers Karl. 0
