gun value

was wondering if anyone could help me with the value of my savage model 110 7mm mag, good shape, wood stock with cheak pad. front and rear sight! any help would be very appricated! thx

    my neighbor borrowed $2oo dollars and gave me his gun to keep if he didn't pay back the money in 1 week. that was 3 months ago. i was told it is worth $400. someone else said $600. it's a smith & wesson 357 magnum, model 28 highway patrolman. serial# s194293 from the end of the cylinder to end of barrel it measures 4 inches. whats the best route to take to get top dollar for it.

    Value depends on condition and we can best determine that if you post good clear pictures. That said, the model 28s have gone up in value over the past couple years. Use to see them in 95+% for $200 (or less) but now they're in the $300+ range. Saw one go at a gun show in Texas for $385 a couple weeks ago in roughly 95% condition.

    I would list it on the auction side for $250 with no reserve to cover my cost, listing, selling and transfer fees, if any. I would then give any amount over $300 back to my neighbor as he must be in tough financial straights to hock his handgun to you.

    I think I would want to secure title to the handgun via a written document before putting it up for sale. He might be a good neighbor or even a good friend but it the gun is reported stolen or if it has been reported stolen (i.e. to recover an insurance value on it ?) then you are going to be left holding the bag.

    And, since the numbers won't be run until after it is sent to an FFL for transfer to a third party .............

    I like things in writing showing where I got something and where I sent something.

    I will concur there. Nothing like having the right papertrail in a firearms transaction.

    That said, I was looking at Smith and Wesson revolvers the other day (I don't know why, revolvers ain't my thing) and noted prices have jumped pretty good on them. But most of the used ones topped out at $425 and average price ran around $340 with a few in the high $200's.

    FWIW, my local gun shop told me that any N frame S&W revolver in good/decent condition will bring $400.00 plus in his shop. In my mind the model 28 would be about the low end of of the N frame's models that I'm familiar with. He had a nice pre-model 27 priced at $675 that didn't stay in the case very long
