I am looking at a Browning 20GA Citori Sporter. It has a straight English style butt stock and 26" barrel. It also has fixed chokes (F/M). I believe the gun was made in 1981. From what I can tell...this model was produced from the mid 70's to early 80's. The gun is $800 and in very good shape. Interested in knowing if the price is about right and when did Browning stop making the fixed-choke models? I would rather have a (IC/M)...does the (F/M) hurt its value? THANKS!!!

    Price sounds pretty good. In my opinion the M/F chokes, and lack of screw in chokes, does hurt the value somewhat; you might be looking at $1,000 in that situation rather than $800. You can probably have Briley or some other competent company install screw in chokes if the barrel walls are thick enough. If I wanted a light O/U 20 gauge and didn't want to spend a lot of money for it I'd say that Citori would be a good choice. Would prefer IC/M chokes but lots of quail and dove have been taken with M/F so I'd probably buy it, see how it shoots, and maybe install screw in chokes later if I decided I really liked the gun.

    The price is right, but a few considerations:

    1. F/M in a 26" barrel does hurt the value. You can have choke tubes put in (if thick walled), but that adds a couple hundred bucks, and you could have gotten a gun with screw in chokes with that extra money.

    2. Straight English stock is hard to sell in the US. If you like it, great, but it will normally hurt resale.

    If you like it and it fits you, it's an OK price, not a "super deal".
