A good brand 30/30 rifle?

What's a good brand for a 30/30 rifle these days, factory new? Marlin, Mossberg, Henry or Winchester? Any of them stand out, or all about the same as far as quality and/or accuracy? I have a hankerin' fer one...thanks in advance!

    I'm absolutely nutts about the Marlin 336 series. Any one of them is a super gun and performs flawlessly with great accuracy.

    The most popular centerfire rifle in the US is the Winchester 94. However, I am partial to the SECOND most popular, the Marlin 336. MUCH easier to mount a scope on it, and to me, a smoother action. Both have been in production a LONG time, and both are very good rifles.

    Can' buy a new "winchester" as they went out of production a long time ago. Even their replacment, USRC went belly up! Get the Marlin!

    those all original pre 64' winchester 94's lined up across the wall over here sure don't look like crap to me and if i had to grab one quick it would be the flatband.find a nice winchester even a commemorative new in it's box and you will do ok

    I would agree with "most" of the previous posts. My opinion is pretty much the same; a Marlin 336 is the best "new" rifle in 30/30 you can purchase today. That said, if you found a slightly used or NIB example of a model 94 Winchester, you would be very satisfied as well.

    The only negative in my opinion on a Winchester, is the ability to mount a scope, due to the top-eject operation. They are harder to mount than on the side eject Marlins. Since ammunition is now available with greater distance capabilities that in the past (Leverevolution), the ability to mount a scope easier may play a role in your decision.

    I have had both Winchesters & Marlins. Neither have ever failed me, but if I had to decide on a "new" model today, it would probably be the Marlin.

    My nod goes to a Marlin 336, in any of the variations they currently produce. That is if you want a lever gun that is a repeater. If you want versatility, then go to the T/C Encore...it is a single shot with interchangable barrels.

    The ONLY .30-30 I have more than one of is the pre-64 Model 94 Winchester. Post 64 model 94 and fat stocked 336, one is enough.

    I've owned two Marlins and one post 64 Winchester and have a strong preference for the Marlin. To me the action feels better and I prefer a heavier rifle.

    The Winchester I had suffered infrequent stoppages that I credited to tolerance stacking and less than ideal parts fitment. The Marlin? Well, it's a Marlin. You would literally have to beat the snot out of them to make them quit.

    No complaints here about my pre-64 '94. It sees its share of action but tends to get babbied when it goes out to play.
