S&W 38 CTG
I inherited a 38 Special and need help with knowing more about it. It has "38 S&W Special CTG" on the right side of the barrell and "Smith & Wesson" on the left. The S/N is S 90205. It appears to have been refinished as there are some rough spots that looks blued over. Can anyone help me the model, value range, age of this gun?

The gun is a 38-44 Heavy Duty made in 1953. To determine a price as you say it has been refinished, is hard to say without seeing good close up pictures. My WAG would be in the $200 range.
EDIT:It's hard to tell from the small pictures as to the condition. Mabe as the collectors are paying for good shooters you might get up to $350-400.0 -
Thanks Dick. With your help I have been able to find a little more information about it. It's a pretty interesting story but the gun isn't of great value. Here are a couple of photos, if they aren't too big. I tried before and they don't fit this screen so you have to pan around to see all the gun. I hope this works better. Still look like about $200?

The .38-44 Heavy Duty is very popular among S&W enthusiasts who cannot afford a .44 Special or Triple Lock whose prices the collectors and speculators have driven out of sight. Even if refinished, one would probably be glad to have it for a project gun, if otherwise in good condition. Ask on the S&W board:

Thanks for all your input. When I put the pictures in they took up several pages but now they are the size of a postage stamp. There's got to be a way to fix it but I don't know how. I went to the link and started looking but it's got a lot of information in it and will take some time.
