Remington Nylon 66

Hi Everyone,
Any ideas on how to bring the plastic stock on a Nylon 66 ( Black ) back to it's nice high luster / shine Thanks Rocky

    I've recently aquired a Nylon 66 in 22lr. It hadnt been fired in many years and was seized up. I've torn it down and cleaned it up, but cant seem to get the small 'cartridge feed insert' in properly. I've written to Remington for a manual and only got a exploided view.
    If I put the insert in thru the top it blocks the bolt from traveling forward, in thru the bottom interfers with the 'cartridge stop' and wont allow the triggerguard to line up with the pin holes.
    I'd rather do it myself instead of taking it to a gunsmith, anyone know what to do?

    Acetone. Take a little on a rag over your finger tip and rub a small area to see if you get the shine you want. If so, rub the entire stock in small sections then make SURE you wash it with cold water after the acetone. Then use a spray plastic polish (not furniture or wood wax, made for plastic or fiberglass type)and shine up.

    There are other methods, but they tend to break down Nylon much more then acetone. There are also mist spray paints that molders call "plastic in a can", but that gets more involved.

    Go to www.nylonrifles.com, I forget the method, but it seems like it was a car polish or something similar.

    After I typed this I realized the date of your post. You've probably already tried the acetone, how'd it come out?

    And if you haven't tried the acetone yet, I'd suggest that you remove the action cover and try it in a place that won't make a difference if you don't like the way it works![:D][:D]

    I have restored many plastic tail light lenses on older cars and use a buffing wheel and very fine buffing compound. Have made many old tail light lenses look new.
    Never thought of buffing a nylon 66, but it should work. I own a green Nylon 66 myself but it is in great shape.

    Probably the best advice here, acetone is liable to eat it up.[:I][B)]

    FLITZ found at any hardware/home depot store will do it right up!
