milled lancaster russian red ak47?
is the milled lancaster russian red ak47 considered any good, concerning being accurate, durable and reliable, with no failure to feed, function or fire and are they actually russian?
is lancaster consulting a good company to deal with?

Regardless of who made it, we don't use "accurate" & "AK-47" in the same sentence. If you want accurate, get another type of rifle.
The only thing "Russian" about Lancaster rifles is the red wood available as an option. They are assembled based on Arsenal receivers & Romanian or Bulgarian parts kits.

we who, i have no problem hitting a man size target with an ak at 500 meters which is fairly accurate for a non scoped open sight rifle; so i guess it depends on what your definition of accuracy is and what you are using.
let me ask the question in another way, as that one may have been complicated; are the lancaster made ak rifles any good, in comparison to say an arsenal, krebs or robinson made ak rifle, etc?
are they a good company to deal with?0 -
I have never been that impressed with the "red russian" rifles, as stated above they are parts guns with redish wood furniture..
Accurate and AK are on realitive terms, the average gun will shoot 3 or 4 moa with russian ammo, but a good gun and good ammo will cut that in half.
And as pointed out by the above poster
An ak sure beats the crap out of a sling shot, bow or atallatal at 200+ yards.. And I have seen a few PSLs that would shoot MOA.0 -

i will point out that i am referring to the milled lancaster ak47 rifles and not the stamped akm, although i don't know if that is an improvement considering lancaster ak quality or not, does anyone actually own any lancaster ak47 or akm rifles that could review?
like i said have never had a problem with an ak hitting its target; although they are not as accurate as an ar they do perform their function well enough.
yeah, one would hope that any firearm should be an improvement over any early ranged weapons taking into consideration its usage.
i thought that the romanian psl rifle was a fairly accurate support rifle and again accurate enough to hit man sized targets at 500 meters and using the optical sight really made it easy.0 -

In quality comparison, the Kreb's, then the Robinson and Arsenal in that order. The Lancaster comes in further down the line. Mind you the Robinson is only abailable on the rpk stamped reciever. I rate the Vepr highly because of that. Please, keep in mind, that unless the reciever or rather donor gun, as it must have been assembled before May of 1994, is just that an assembled weapon that was made before that date, the majority of the parts will not be imported...yes, some will be, but most will be made in the old red, white and blue. This has to be, because of the HR 922 bill.
I know it is entirely possible to hit a man sized target at 500 yards with an AK, but if the adversary is shooting at me, I would rather use something that is going to kill him, not wound him and piss him off. I will take a NM M-14, or an AR-10 based sniper rig every time in that situation...provided a 30 or 50 cal sniper rifle is not available...no such thing as too much gun in that situation.
Best
EDIT 1
auto,
The fit and finish suck compared to the others listed. Had about as much trigger slap as a RomaK, and I have seen and done a lot better builds. It was OK and functional, and fairly accurate for what it is.
As far as being a cut down 308...yes the 7.62x39 is comparable to the 30-30, not 308 Winchester or 7.62x51 NATO. The bullets it fires are short in length compared to the 308 Winchester, and therefor have not got the ballistic coefficient or needed muzzle velocity to maintain any power level beyond 300 meters for efficient killing. Yes anything at most any power level will kill, provided that shot placement is correct...but the AK platforms are not capable of that type of consistent accuracy at extended ranges. If we go back to the history thing, the Russians tried to mimmick the Germans 8mm Kurtz(8mm Short) round, when they designed the 7.62x39...it was designed to have a maximum effective range of 400 meters, as an intermediate range round.0 -

an ak at 500 meters is very capable of killing as it is a cut down .308 anyway, heavier longer range weapons are always desirable, but not necessarily as practical as an ak or ar however.
so back to the subject again, so you either have or had a lancaster ak47 or akm before i take it, did it ftf, not hit the target accurately or maybe just wasn't cosmetically nice enough or something, why are you rating it low?0 -
i actually own a lancaster rifle the russian red model with a stamped action although i have never shot it over 100 yards it has descent accuracy for an ak which an ak is not known for accuracy its funtions well though 0 -

that is why i referred to it as a cut down .308, never said it was comparable to a .308 or 7.62x51, a cut down .308 would probably be more comparable to a .30-30, but in the case of the 7.62x39 has a bit more range and power imo, as like i said i have no problem hitting targets accurately at 500 meters and don't believe in the mythical 7.62x39 invisible 300 meter barrier and when hot loaded the 7.62x39 performs even better and i am familiar with its history.
anyway this subject keeps getting away from the topic, just needed information on the lancaster ak47 and akm.0 -

unfortunately, as nice as the lancaster ak's look and although there are some good reviews on the lancaster ak's, there seem to be several other bad reviews on several sites enough to question the purchase of any lancaster ak.0 -

There you have it. A known stamp of approval from someone who owns one who say's it's functional.
I guess it would depend on how much it was if I was to buy one. I can get better quality by buying a VZ-58. As to hitting a target @ 500 it is possible from the platform if the platform is in relatively new condition and not worn to slop as many of the AK's I've fired in the past have been. I like to say about the AK is that it has the relative accuracy you need to fight a battle. If the battle was to extend you would certainly have a tough time firing back. The Cubans found that out against us in Grenada when they could hardly reach us with their rounds and our M-21's were laying in extremely accurate fire and our M-60's were pouring in fire right into them constantly. Our '16's engaged them far beyond their maximum effective range. The AK is a great 'close and kill' type weapon. But, it needs the support of longer ranging more accurate weapons.
So, if you want an AK type and it's the right price then it's a good deal.0 -

Dynamic forum, here. I'm always learning. Input is needed to keep it dynamic, and this forum will be better able to serve the next person who has a similar question provided people like you post with your findings.
This string will be locked soon, (ten is the max) as too many responses were used up in disecting every detail posted. Best, Joe0 -
