Anyone no what model and what years they were made?
On the barrel its says 20 guage choke bore barrel and lug forged in one. On the receiver it says Iver Johnson's Arms & cycle works Fitchburg Mass USA
I think the Locking Bolt Spring is broken.

I inherited an Iver Johnson Cadet .22 pistol Model 55-sa from my father-in-laws estate. It appears to be in very good cond. Does anyone out there know any approximate values? Anything will help. Thanks. 0 -
iver johnson made their first single barrel shotgun in 1880 and their last in the 1970's. without knowing which model iver johnson single barrel shotgun you have (there were more than several) it is hard to tell you anthing about it. generally they will sell for about $50 in poor condition to over $200 in like new condition.
if you don't feel qualified it is a must that any firearm you are unsure about be checked out by a qulified person.

I don't see a year maker on the gun anywhere took the gun apart and forearm. no other markings.
on the butt plate is the name iver johnson and the picture of an owl. also near the trigger guard are the letters HUUU.

I THINK the "letters only" serial numbers ran from about 1939-1969. Yes, HUUU is your serial number. Translates from FITCHBURGX (substitute 1234567890 for letters- or in your case, 5777)

yes that is correct. but just a couple of days ago i was looking through my iver johnson catalogs and discovered in 1958 the champion single barrel shotgun was list as out of production. the statement actually said "Production resumption to be announced". this statement was used until 1971 when the champion single barrel shotgun was listed as temporarly available in 12 gauge only. the next year 1972 12, & 20 gauges and 410 bore were available. the last iver johnson catalog i have for the fitchburg address is 1975 it carries the same listing as the 1972. the next catalog i have is 1978 with a Middlesex NJ address and no revolvers or shotguns are listed.
i do not believe i have yet to see one of the 1970's production era shotguns so i can't say anything about the serial numbers but i do not believe the letters used in the 1940's and 1950's were used. therefore i have changed my thinking and am now using a 1957 cutoff date for the letters only serial numbers. here is my thinking as of now.
the models made before 1909 all seem to have numbers only with no letter prefixes with each model having its own series.
1909-1917 champion model 36= numbers only from 1 up to 99,999
1917-1921 champion= numbers and a single letter suffix
1921-1939 champion= numbers and two letter suffix
1939=1956 champion= letters only
1971=1978 champion= unknown
as there are no known factory serial number records this all may have to change as new information comes to light. the 1909 champion model 36 is the beginning of the modern era of iver johnson single barrel shotguns. it had features that many companies would not adopt until the 1930's.
