Whats a fair price on a legal, with paper class III AK 47?

    My Father swaers that a AK47 and a SKS is the same thing. Is he right, or am I

    If there are no manufacturers,importers, or country of origin markings as required by U.S. law. It's probably a homebuild. In recent years many parts for various AK's have been imported, and sold inexpensively. Knowledgeable folks have fabricated the sheet metal receivers here in the States and sold them. This has turned into quite a cottage industry assembling your own AK from parts in your garage or basement. Hopefully the guy who put together your AK used quality parts, and knew what he was doing. Lot of them are just bubbaized, by some drunk who uses a vise grip and a 4 lb blacksmiths hammer.

    It is legal to build your own gun, provided it's possession is legal & it is not of a type that is not legal to import. It is not legal to transfer such a gun to someone else.

    I would not have taken possession of this gun.

    If you cant find the owner you should find some dedicated AK forums and read up on home built rifles and make sure it is compliant. I personally would probably just say that I built it myself.

    It doe not apear to be home built to me. The serial numbers all match on the barrel,the bolt and on the receiver. It also came with a bayonet.

    Are you able to take pictures of it? Does it have a milled receiver or stamped receiver?

    If stamped sheet metal receiver:
    Does it have a scope mount on the left side of the receiver?

    If you flip the rifle over, is there anything stamped infront of the magazine well on the receiver?

    OOW (Ohio Ordinance) receivers are stamped on the left side of the receiver. A rivoted on scope mount would cover those markings.

    No Dak Spud Receivers are marked just infront of the magazine well on the underside of the receiver.

    The receiver itself should have a serial # on it. On a home built rifles the trunion serial # (matches bolt, bolt carrier, and top cover) doesn't count (at least for resale).

    Edited to add: Sounds like it's a home build from a bent flat. The kits w/o the receivers are selling for almost $300. If it has US parts, (trigger, hammer, disconect, piston, muzzle brake) you should be fine. Who ever built shouldn't have sold it but I can't see anything wrong with a trade. All mine are built on receivers that came through a FFL.

    I looked at a few AK websites. It has an arrow inside of a triangle right next to the ser #. So I shows it being a Romainan type.I might just have to get a pic up tonight.
