Factory loads
I did a buy-it-now on some 22 Hornet ammo. According to the description, a full box of Remington factory ammo. I recieved the ammo today and the primers are silver colored, not the brass color like Remington factory .243 or .270. Also, there seems to be a sizing ring about 3/16ths up from the rim.
Do you guys think these are reloads, or are they really factory? Any way to know for sure?

You could pull a bullet, dump the powder and inspect the inside of the case. Reloaded brass seldom cleans up totally on the inside. 0 -
Look for tiny scratches along the length of the case from the sizing die, the telltale shiny ring from being once-fired, or compare primers from Remington to what you've got-If I remember, Rem primers are almost all brass-colored while most others are silvery. 0 -
I've bought factory ammo from a couple different makers that were silver at times. It kind of throws you off. The ring is what really would make me suspect it's a reload.
However, check and see that the ring doesn't match a point where the cartridge was riding in a shell-box. I have seen that too. Especially when the box rode around in a truck. Depending on the box if it was styrofoam or hard plastic and which end stuck out. The end that was exposed was darker and the end inside the styrofoam looked clean.0 -

I actually bought a box of 22 Hornet today, Remington Express 45 Gr PSP, R22HN1. Purchased at a sporting goods chain store which had a couple of boxes sitting on the shelf, and has silver colored primers. Hope that helps.0 -
Thanks to all who replied. I opened one up last night and the inside of the case was as shiny as the outside.
Range report:
Three shot groups all in a 3/4" dot at 50 yards. There's a groundhog messing around my garden that will not see another sunset.0
