38 S&W Special CTG Revolver

I have an old S&W revolver Serial #538192. There is a number inside the open cylinder instead of a model number. It is 28073. It has walnut checkered grips with a diamond over the grip mounting screw. The barrel is 6" long and has a blued finish. On the top of the barrel it has markings Smith and Wesson Springfield Mass USA

Can you give me any info as to Manufacture date & value. Is it worth spending any money on it, or should I just wipe it down with an oily rag and place it on the wall?

    You have a pre model 10, M&P, 4th.change. Made around 1940. From 1915-1942 the serial number were 241704-700000.
    Value is from $70-$400 depending on condition. We need to see very good close up pictures to determine that.
