WALTHER P38 9MM VALUE??
HELLO, IM A NEW MEMBER HERE AND WANTED TO GIVE SOME INFO ON THIS GUN IM CONSIDERING GETTING. IT IS A WALTHER P38 9MM. ON THE SIDE IT SAYS P1 KAL.9mm ALSO HAS C.A.I. Georgia V.T. GERMANY on The other side of it. What is it worth? It has black grips and it looks like a conventional 9mm in a pic I saw but it has a longer barrel that protrudes out of that part. I would post a pic if I knew how. I have not seen it in person but it is suppose to be atleast 90-95%. has acase and 2 extra clips. one clip was made 3/59 the other is 7/63. Thx for any help!

There are two versions of the post war alloy frame P 1. Early ones dated from the late 50's to the early 70's have unreinforced frames. After the West German army had a lot of durability problems with them, Walther came out with a new improved model. The one shown in the photo is one of them. You can see the steel hex bolt that reinforces the frame in the photo, just forward and above the trigger. If you intend to do a lot of shooting with the pistol, I would only get the later model with the reinforced frame.

Here is one without the bolt, which I feel is overkill for the average civilian shooter and the bolt is damend ugly to boot!

Thx for the input. Is either of the two versions worth about the same? $350.00 was the estimated value I just wanted to know if it was either of the 2 post war models or if one was worth more than the other. 0 -

It depends on how much you intend to shoot it? If it's just going to be a safe Queen, (shooting 50 rounds a year),one is as good as another. Years back I knew a guy who cracked the frames on two of the unreinforced ones. Its your money, problem is there is no fix for a cracked aluminum frame. Tiging it, would look like s**t and probably wind up warping the frame.0
