most sks models ive looked at on gunbroker appear to have a fixed magazine capacity how do i find the capacity of most yougoslavian made rifles or norinco rifles my brother has a russian made sks and it has a 10 round capacity is this the most common thanks hank

All the factory SKS mags have a 10 round capacity. The Chinese made some similar looking mags. with a 20 round capacity. I have not seen to many of these on guns. They were probably more of a Chinese after market item.Picture shows YUGO SKS with Chinese 20 round mag.[img][/img]

+1 good looking set up, I like the way the red dot is positioned so that you can still use strippers.. Pistol grip looks good to..
And as has been said already the standard SKS mag capacity is 10 rounds via a non detachable box type magazine, loading is done by a 10 round stripper clip useing the guide in the bolt.
As far as i know the only 20 round non detachable box type mags where imported from china, I bought three from centerfire systems for a friend, They work well for him still after three years.
detachable box mags can be found in 5,7,10,20,30,40,50 & 75 capacities. You can also find the ocasional 75 or 100, 120 round drum. thought the latter is rare as hens teeth and very expensive.. The last 100 round drum I saw was like 350.00.0 -

With a few rare exceptions, EVERY stock SKS rifle is going to have a fixed 10 round magazine. That's what the original design called for.
Certainly the Yugoslavian, Albanian, and Russians ones do, as do MOST of the Chinese (ie Norinco) ones.
If its not specified, you can assume its a fixed 10 round magazine.
And from a practical standpoint, the 10 round fixed mag is quite good. They're reliable, and possible to load extremely quickly from stripper clips with a little practice. The stripper clips are not only cheaper than detachable magazines, they're also lighter and significantly less bulky. The clips are also legal everywhere since they are not magazines!
That's the "secret" behind the SKS. Even though its a centerfire military semi-automatic rifle with a flipping bayonet on it, in most jurisdictions, its still NOT an "assault rifle" because it lacks a detachable magazine and (beautiful example in the image above notwithstanding), lacks a pistol grip!
If you stick an extended detachable magazine on your gun, you MAY (depending on your jurisdiction) be in violation of the law.
Anyway, the only good reason I can think of to want more than 10 rounds in your SKS is if you think you are likely to use it in actual combat. Even then, there is something to be said about the strong reliability of the fixed magazine, vs the extended 20(+) round magazines that tend not to work reliably.
And if you KNOW you are going to go into combat, you're probably better off with an AK.0 -

Also please note in the above photo this rifle also has the extended rear sight just below the eye piece of the red dot and it also has the only bipod in the world that does not interfere with the operation of the bayonet and vice versa. 0
