AR 15 Problem

I own a AR 15 double star rifle that is a standard 20 inch not the M4 version. The serial number starts with DS. My problem is that when I shot the gun I can hear the spring inside the stock. It is pretty loud and kind of annoying. It does not affect the rifle at all in preformance. In fact I have not had any problems with this rifle. I have changed out the spring like the Double star corp had said to do, problem still remains. I know that there was a problem with the recievers being defective, but that has been determined by double star and an ar 15 local shop not to be a problem with this rifle. (I had just heard people saying some of the DS model rifles had problems with thier recievers but that was fixed, AGAIN just what someone told me). My question is what can I do to stop that sound. I have a friend with a colt and it does not make that sound at all.

An Idea that was brought across was to change out the stock for another one.

Any thoughts out there on how to fix this problem?

    it is the spring in the buffer tube..[:)], My double star, and my bushmaster do the same thing..As far as I know it is normal.

    as for doing something about it, a pneumatic or hydrraulic buffer would stop the noise.

    I have used a rifle with an endine buffer installed, very smooth no noise. Brownells sells them, parts number is 100-002-390EE

    That sound is pretty much normal for all AR's.

    If it bugs you, just apply a little grease to the buffer spring. Quietens it right down.

    I only notice the sound when I wear hearing protection. Try shooting without, and the report of the rifle firing will drown out the noise the spring makes. J/K.

    the first time I shot a m-16 (Fort lewis, 1970) I looked down at in and thought "who made this damn thing, Mattie Mattel"? the noise is normal, as above it can be 'fixed'.

    Hey guys thanks for the info. If it is normal thats cool I will try some of the fixes. I have shot five ar 15's before this m4 and standard without this sound. That is why I thought it was odd. Again thanks for the info.

    They all have the sound, some are just quieter then others.

    Something must be wrong with the ones that did not make that sound.

    The noise is normal with AR'S. A fixed stock is some quieter. As said above there are fixes to quiet them down.

    If you only shoot in warm weather and don't have a concern about 100% operation, you can grease the spring with fairly heavy grease to quiet it somewhat. That takes some of the" boing "out but may affect bolt travel in cold weather.

    Thanks again to all. It was not a major concern, but the spring noise is very loud. Couple of buddies of mine who are in the marines had noticed it as well as being very loud. If it is standard than it was definitly louder than others that I have shot and no I did not notice it out of them. Have been told as well it could just be the quality between colt and double star. Dont know about that but ok. Again thanks.
