Colt police positive

The local pawn shop has recently added 4 Colt Police Positive revolvers to their display case. All show a patent date of July 4, 1905. One in particular is chambered 38 S&W, with a 6" bbl., s/n 866xx. This gun is parkerized. Could that be original? And if so is it rare and how would it effect value. The finish is 95% plus.

    I have a Colt Police Positive .32 Police CTG. with last patent date of October 5, 1926. Serial #339756.

    Can you help with age of gun and what type of cartridge can be safely used in this gun. I have never fired it, and it has been in my gun safe for 20 years.

    DOM is 1927, according to my reference. Being a "Target Model" in WRF, would make it quite uncommon. The Blue Book states that there were two versions, yours being made in 1927 most likely would be the second, known to collectors as the Model C. Value would be substantial, from the photo looks like it would grade out as Very Good.

    I have to respectfully disagree with rufe-snow. The .22WRF is actually a pretty common chambering in these Police Positive Target revolvers, especially early ones. One sees more PPT revolvers chambered in .22WRF for sale than the .22LR versions, partly because they are expensive to shoot. The .22LR ones are often kept as shooters, and they are great ones. A PPT om .22WRF is not rare.

    However, the PPT chambered in .32 IS the rare one.

    The holster appears to be an older Lawrence which, in and of itself, is a quality item.
