remington 541X question

Any know what size magazine came orignal equipment with the 541X...5 shot or 10 shot? Also how may inserts for the front sight came with the rifle?

    recently bought a remington 541X rifle from gunbroker..new in the box with all the CMP papers..cleaned it..put the pieces togather and took it to the range..problem is I could not get the sights to move..(even read the manual)..I can turn the knobs..hear the clicks..but the elevation lines on the side of the williams sight does not change...any help would be great..have no experience with williams sights but they should be basically the same...thanks!

    some williams receiver sights have a lock screw along side the elevation slide.

    yep...loosened those...finally got the windage working..still nothing on the elevation..turned the screw..clicks..no movement of the elevation bar...but the screw tried to come up out the sight

    On mine there is a clamp screw immediately forward of the vertical indication/adjustment bar. That should be loose. If you have turned the vertical without loosening that screw it may be possible the vertical adjustment screw is stripped. Loosen it and push up. If it moves after that it may be stripped where it was riding. If you ever have to set it down, or up, that far again you may need to repeat that to get the threads to re-engage each other.

    I hate to say it but I like the Lyman rear sight better. It has the sliding plate on the outside and when you were zeroed at a given range you moved the slide to reflect that. The detent was plenty to keep the vertical and horizontal in place.

    Edit:

    Check that the little "ride" screw right on the back of the elevation is in and not stripped off. It sits right back and below the elevation knob. You may have it too loose to catch the elevation adjustment. Which would be a good thing as nothing would be stripped out.

    Just talked to folks at Williams gun sight...they said to send back and they'll take care of it..so it's now on it's way to michigan
