Does a CCW Permit make it easier to purchase?
Does anyone know how or if having a CCW permit will make buying a gun easier? I have read that if you have a CCW permit you do not have to wait three days to take your gun home. What about the background check? Does having a CCW permit mean that you do not have to have a background check run when you purchase a gun, or will it ensure that there are no problems? I live in Florida and tried to purchase a sidearm but was denied after the dealer ran the background check. I have no criminal history and have never been adjudicated as mentally impaired. I plan on pursuing an appeal to find out why, get it resolved, and buy my gun, but I was wondering if I having a CCW permit would prevent this kind of mistake happening in the future. Thanks to anyone with an answer to my question.

I have a few rants and here is one of them. KNOW your states laws. Read them, reread them, and read them again. After that have them bookmarked so if you have any questions they are easy to find. YOU will be the one carrying YOUR gun, YOU need to know the rules for YOUR state. How do you do that? Look here and select your state, http://www.atf.gov/firearms/statelaws/ Yes it is a lot of reading but it is worth it.
There is usually nothing about a CCW that makes getting a gun easier. You still have to fill out a 4473 and have the NICS check run. In some states with waiting laws having a CCW aka CWL aka CPL will allow you to take possession of the gun same day vs waiting. I know in MY state if you dont have a CCW then you have to wait 5 days to pick up a handgun.0 -
OK, let me ask the question in a different way in case there are any members out there looking for opportunities to rant about their pet peeves without really thinking about the question at hand:
Since the process of obtaining a concealed weapons license involves having a more thorough background check performed, as opposed to a fast check where a firearms dealer calls a toll-free number where a technician searches an inaccurate database, would any expert or someone with actual knowledge and/or experience suppose that undergoing this process would make the disposition of future background checks more accurate and therefore expedite the purchase of future firearms?
My point is that I do not want to have to appeal every future purchase because there is a mistake in the FCIC/NCIC database. If obtaining a CCW permit would/could prevent this from happening again and correct what is on record, I might be apt to obtain one for that purpose. None of the many published sources that I READ before posting to this forum had any specific information about this nuance, so I was hoping there was an expert out there who does.
If anyone out there has any real experience with this kind of situation, whether in their own state or Florida, comments or suggestions are appreciated, rants are not. Thanks again.0 -

Get a hold of the yellow pages, look up a nearby gunshop. Stop in.
Ask the manager just what entails handgun purchases with, and without a state-issued pistol permit. Compare the difference.
Not being snide, because this is exactly what I'd do. They are retail merchants, and would look to you as a potential customer. Try it, you may like it! Best, Joe0 -
In the state of SC, If you hold a VALID CWP, A NICS check is not required...You do have to complete the 4473...

PS:
The BATFE now has a program that will assist those buyers that are always delayed for a number of days for reasons of erroneous info in the NICS and/or FBI Computer database.... You complete a backround investigation request sheet and submit it with fingerprints and all the other stuff. If and when you pass the muster, you will be assigned a number that you will provide to the FFL during the normal NICS check done at the time of purchase..
Apparently, by requesting this backround investigation, the information is permitted to be stored and maintained..
All of the "normal" information provided on the 4473 and to NICS for the NICS check must be erased/ destroyed.. within a certain time period.. This is by law... The number issued by BATFE will allow the NICS folks to refer to the additional info stored by virtue of the backround investigation , and a "proceed" will be issued to the FFL...0 -

In Arizona, the 4473 has to be filled out but the background is skipped by just showing your CCW card.

Jim, Givette, and Nononsense have it.
In some states (and I know SC is one of them), *IF* you have a CCW, you can avoid the Federal NICS check, but just fill out the 4473 form.
The easiest way to find out is simply to ask any gun-shop proprietor (not a clerk at Walmart) in your area whether or not having a CCW permit lets you avoid the NICS check. If I were you, I'd explain exactly why I was asking, so they don't get the wrong idea about why you want to avoid a NICS check.
You should also ask them if having a CCW will eliminate the three day waiting period.
I can't imagine any gun store owner NOT wanting to help you buy a gun.0 -
