Colt Commando ???
I'm looking at a true 98% colt commando 38spl. no box. 1944 vintage. all matching
is $850 a good price?
I've only seen one other in this shape and it was over $1000, but it had box and papers.
what say the experts?

Does it have the US Flaming Bomb proof? Does it have a 2 inch or a 4 inch barrel? 0 -
A few auctions I have watched a couple of years ago (because I inherited one) they went for around $350-$400. 0 -
With a two inch barrel, go for it. With a 4 inch barrel, that's a bit high for right now. Most were issued to plant guards and are not military, and without markings this has to be assumed. 0 -
its a 4', but it does have the bomb proof.
I just never saw one in this condition before.
I'll see if he'll take less.

I would be very careful regarding any W W II era substitute standard handguns with U.S. ordinance department acceptance markings. There seems to have been a cottage industry that has sprung up in recent years, devoted to refinishing and adding spurious U.S. markings to these guns.
Check with John Stimpson on his High Standard collectors site. He has personal knowledge regarding this matter, and knows the individual who is refinishing and remarking these fakes.0 -
thanks rufe! I wasn't thinking about fakes when i looked at it, but i know i need to! gonna be hard to pick em out with the parkerized finish and good quality stamp forgery these days.
there's a guy over at Coltforum that has one he bought 15 yrs ago that's LNIB for $750. I'm waiting for pics on that one. I trust him, and figure there were less forgeries back then. don't know if that's true or not, but it sounds good to me.
