M1 garand conversion

I'm selling a M1 Garand for my neice. My brother had recently passed away and it was his rifle. I don't know anything about it. I have it listed #134385368 on gunbroker. Serial number on the receiver is 1854478. A lot of interested people are asking if it's a rewld, I really don't know. Other numbers on the right side of the receiver are 0 4 0 B then a diamond. under that is D 28291 27. On the barrel under the hand guard the numbers are D6535448-37MD-8 then further down a W. Under the barrel is A78 and on the right hand side is an upside down K. What can you guys tell me about this rifle, Reweld, history, company or person that converted, worth, etc?     John, Your Garand, as you know is a Springfield. According to the serial number it was made about august of 1943. The numbers beginning with "D" are drawing numbers of the particular parts.

    There were several people who did this type of conversion, some may still be doing them. It was an attempt to make a gun like the Beretta BM59 which is a 7.62 mag fed rifle.

    Not sure who did your conversion. Probably not a reweld, but there was a good amount of machining to modify the Garand to use detachable magazines.

    You may very well not have a re-weld. I didn't look at your pictures, but the revision number (to the right of the drawing number, in your case Revision 27) may be appropriate to mid '43.

    My Garand is of very late War mfg. 8/45. SerNo 3858709. It has a revision number of 35 stamped onto the receiver.

    One of the giveaways to a re-weld is when the revision number on the front of the receiver doesn't match the serial number on the back, indicating that two random receiver halves were welded together. Hope I'm accurate on this. Best, Joe

    All M1's converted to accept mags were made by cut-and-welding; it really doesn't matter if the front & back of the receiver are from the same or different rifles.

    If I were selling a "mystery" gun about which I knew nothing, my response to all queries would be "I don't know any more than is described in my listing; if that is not enough information, please do not bid."
