NEED ME SOME INFO.

ok what i need is to know the proper ammo..i just bought me a H-R model 733 its a very old pistol now when i went to get me some ammo there is 2 choices s@w short and s@w long the only thing i can find on my pistol is that it shoots s@W 32 ammo.so my quastion isl do i buy long or short ammo...thanks alot for your time.

    It's of fairly recent manufacture, 32 S & W Long would be the correct cartridge. I don't believe any modern handguns have been made specifically for the short. It, (the short), was made for the old 19th Century suicide specials.

    Revolver below is chambered for .32 S&W (the short cartridge). Made prior to 1890. Notice the ridge in the chambers? I don't think .32 S&W Long will fit. Yours most likely will have the ridges. If so, take the cylinder down to the gunshop and fit both type bullets. My read is that you have the shorts (.32 S&W). Best, Joe

    The HR 733 dates to the 1960's, not the 1860's. Although the 1960's might qualify to being "very old" to some of the younger folks on this forum, to a lot of us it was just like yesterday.

    The cartridge name is 32 S&W. Not .32 short. Unless the weapon is marked "32 S&W Long" it would be chambered for the .32 S&W. While we may refer to it as a short, it is not so named.

    ok great i will go with the s@w long ya its not a break top the cylender does tip out of the frame.thanks alot guys ya i was born in the 60s so i like to look at it as im young yet.ha ha

    The 733 should be a nickel-plated 732, with a swing-out cylinder. If so, then I would bet that the .32 S&W Long is the correct cartridge. If you need to remove the cylinder, to bring it to the ammo store, then one screw is all you have to remove. Good luck![;)]

  • 32 Magnum
    The Model 733 will accept either the .32 S&W OR the .32 S&W LONG, even though many of the early piece were simply stamped as .32 S&W. They WILL NOT accept .32 H&R Magnum - as I've seen stated on numerous other forums. The H&R 733 was made from 1957 thru 1986. Earliest versions had firing pin mounted on hammer nose, later on (after around 1972-73) had the H&R transfer bar safety/ignition system.
    Not bad little shooters and reasonably accurate. I've owned/own about a dozen of the 732s and 733s, including the bigger brother with 4" barrel and full size square butt grip frame. MagTech/Brazil, makes a 85 gr JHP round in .32 S&W Long which does open up in water,shot from the 2.5" barrel.
