Springfield GI45 or Mil-Spec???

I'm wanting a basic, plain jane 1911 pistol for a shooter. Is there much of a difference between these two pistols? I don't know much about pistols. I reload and was planning on sticking to round nose bullets as I thought they my feed better then HP bullets. Thought some hardcast bullts may work well? I'll take any and all thoughts and suggestions. Thanks for the help.

So is the GI harder on brass than the mil-spec? I am leaning slightly towards the gi right now as I like the looks of it better but if it's going to eat my brass up faster, then I'll go with the mil spec.

Yes, I know it's not a real government issue 1911 and is a play on words. I just want a basic 1911 to shoot. Is one harder on brass then the other or is it about equal?

    With both , the differences off the top of my head are different grips , slightly better sights on the mil spec, the G.I is supposed to resemble the typical military small 1911 45 sights. The ejection port is also lowered on the mil-spec and the G.I dings up the brass cases but it is not enough to prevent someone from reloading them either. Both of mine will feed ball or H.P. Hard to say which I like the best despite the mil spec having little better sights. The G.I was a little cheaper but I couldn't tell you how much off hand.
    My G.I is more accurate despite the smaller sights but that is not to say all G.I's will out shoot all mil-specs.

    For a shooter, I would pay a little more and get the better sights of the Milspec over the GI.

    A new built G.I. will never be a military issue pistol. so go with the Mil-Spec sights make the pistol If you want a GI that will increase in value get a REAL one If you want to shoot the best designed 45ACP then go with one that has better sights.

    I like the mil-spec for the better sights. Not to mention they are both replaceable. Not sure if the rear GI is but I know the GI's I looked at the front was not. IMO the Mil-spec is finished out better too. My Mil-spec has outshot the three or four GI's it's come up against on the range. But that could be just luck too, because it sure didn't outshoot my neighbors Kimber.

    I can honestly say that now and down the road you will probably be more happy with the Mil-spec.
