1911 conversion unit recommendation

I 'm going to buy a 22 conversion unit for my Gold Cup. I need a lot of practice and 22's are cheaper lol.. I know that the recoil will be different, but at least the gun will weigh the same.

Is there any unit that stands out or are they all about the same..?

    I've had very good luck with the Advantage Arms conversion units on my Glocks, one of them has had thousands of rounds through it.

    They also make a "target" version for the 1911 platform pistols. You might consider it. If it's as reliable as the one they make for the Glocks, it would be a winner in my estimation.

    The only one I have used is the Kimber conversion. I only used it about three times and it was not very good.

    Marvel!
    Most accurate, can mount a scope. Use the plastic mags, barrel is in 5&6".

    Cenier works for iron sights, Kimber is also good as long as you use irons and Hi-vel ammo.

    Only down side to the Marvel is the slide stays closed after the last round (unless you use one of "Perryshooters" custom alum plugs)

    Bob Marvel is also producing one that might be the "Advantage" and I hear very good things, but haven't shot one yet.

    Seems like you'd want to put a Colt 22 conversion unit on that Gold Cup. I've had one for my Series 70 Gold Cup for 35 years or so and they work great. Of course they were $84 back in '74 and they're a tad more now.

    Hello Gee Guy has the same advice I would give you.with slight modification. The NEW BOB MARVEL Match grade & the standard grade sold by advantage arms are basically the same unit with accuracy upgrade by BOB Marvel the original designer of the older aluminum slide MARVEL conversion unit sold by MIDWAY USA. and others . The original Marvel that bought out Bob about 10 years ago have become very hard to deal with and customer support leaves something to be desired. The other match grade conversion units are the older Day 30 X and Kart . The older Colt conversion units had a floating chamber and were designed to give MORE RECOIL for training for the military in shooting the 1911 type service pistol but must be cleaned often and works best with good quality ammo not the soft lead BULK stuff.     I have a Jarvis and have been happy with it. It is steel and uses the standard Colt ace magazines.

    +1 for the Marvel conversion unit.

    Mine is very accurate and comes with a hand lapped match barrel and tight chamber. It is picky about ammunition. It likes CCI Mini Mags and the Remington bulk pack Golden Bullet. Go figure.

    I have used a late 70's Colt conversion kit on my old gold cup for many years. I love it. The "Floating" chamber must be kept clean, {about every 100 rounds]. You can tell when the chamber is starting to
    gum up, because the recoil drops to almost normal .22lr levels. It feels
    "almost" like a lite .45acp recoil when clean. My kit has a brown box it came in and doesn't say "ACE" on the slide. Has the great Ellison
    target sites. Paid an additional $90 for the kit, when I bought the
    gold cup many, many years ago. Have seen the kits sell for $400 today....I may THINK about selling it for $600 !!! LOL bob[:)]

    Go to the Marvel web site and get on their forum. Lots of great info, not only on the Marvels, but all others as well.

    I have about 5-6000rds through my Kimber with no problems. It's has adj. sights and is accurate.

    So many good choices ! That's what I was looking for.. I learned something new from you guys , I didn't know the floating chamber was to simulate recoil. I thought it was an accuracy feature...

    I do want to shoot thousands of rounds . 22highpower,you read my mind, A Colt conversion unit would look good on my GC [:)] perryshooter probably has an old unit lying around..

    I'll think about a couple days and try to decide.. hmnn. maybe I should buy a Colt ACe pistol .. nope , an ACE will have to wait. Conversion unit and a older National Match first ..
