Scope options for LR308...H*E*L*P please!

Just purchased this:

I'm looking for the best option in optics. Do I go with red-dot, tactical, traditional hunting style, panoramic? I want something with at least some minimal magnification, maybe more. I'd like quick target acquisition and some moderately longish range.

Any clues/suggestions will be appreciated. As you may guess by my question, I'm not too scope savvy, to say the least.

Oh, and did I mention? I would like to stay under $300, if possible. [:)]

    What is the intended usage for the rifle? I mean to say, what are you gonna shoot?

    The .308 is a great cartridge, but with only a 16" barrel you are not going to generate maximum muzzle velosity. Without that it isn't likely that you will be doing 1000yd shots on a regular basis. So I'd personally use something like a VX3 Leupold or a Burris Signeture scope in the 3x9 or 3.5x10 range. Maybe a 4x12 or so, but nothing much higher. If money is tight you could also get away with the VX2 or fullfield series of scopes. Good luck with it......

    I'd go with a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 Ballistic Plex scope...they can be had for under $200 and are very nice scopes!

    I can get this one with a rimfire scope thrown in. I've been looking for a scope for a new .17HMR Marlin bolt action anyway. Might not be a bad deal, eh?

    Thats it. I have one on my AR-15 Target and one on my Remington VTR in 308, I thought I needed more power so I went to a Nikon 4-14, but then went back to the Burris 3-9x40. Very happy with it.
