Iver Johnson 22 M1 Carbine

I have noticed these are bringing premiums on GunBroker. Has anyone seen any of these out there for sale or sold one themselves?

    These guns are known to have weak op rods and are made of potmetal and break. The parts are almost non existent. My friend had one and the op rod broke and we searched for months and NOTHING.

    With the advent of the internet, and the resulting ease of obtaining info, interest in gun collecting has been on the rise for 15 years or so. And in the most recent years has finally gotten around to vintage rimfires.
    Of course anything no longer made, especially by companies that are no longer in existence, were some the 1st pieces to begin to see a jump in interest. And therefore prices & "value".
    I spotted the increase in interest in the IJ M-1 Carbine, made by the also defunct Ermawerke in Germany several years ago. And grabbed mine up at a gunshow for $100. then. I bet I could easily triple my investment now.
    John W. is correct. These rifles had a rep for being Ammo picky. Altho mine loves Federal bulk. John's friend probably damaged his firing hyper velocity ammo such as CCI Stingers. These guns weren't made for them.
    And if it breaks there is small hope of finding replacement parts. (Altho IMO giving up after a few months is a 1/2 hearted attempt. I've had gun projects that it took me 2+ years to find some parts for).
    I'm sure the occasional deal on a IJ .22 M-1 carbine pops up. But you'll have to be patient and diligent to find it. Good luck.

    They have gone up in value quite a bit in the last few years. I picked one up about fifteen years ago, and gave $50 for it. It had thousands of round through it, and has had many more thousands of rounds through it since. If you find one, the rear sight is a hard to find piece if it is missing. Also, extra mags are the next hardest thing to find. The kids love it, and with a scope it is very accurate.

    The very last one I seen had a sticker of $300.00. I do not know if that was high or low, it seemed about fair I thought and was in nice shape. I gave serious thought to picking it up and probably should have.
