Long action vs Short Action...

I'm new to posting here, but have been using Gunbroker for work (and personal use) for a year or more, and have been reading the fourms as well.

Ok...on to my question. We have a Remington Model 710 in .243, and it came to us without a magazine. I found a site selling magazines, but there are two types, one for a long action, and one for a short action.

As you've probably surmised by now, we're unsure if this rifle has a long action or a short action.

    It's sometimes difficult to know which cartridge fits which action. In general, short action cartridges are limited to 2.800" in Overall length (loaded). Long action cartridges are usually 3.340" in length with the long magnum cartridges (H&H or RUM length) going to 3.600".

    Some of the common short action cartridge are based on the .308 Win. family and the Savage family.

    Some of the common long action cartridges are based on the 30-06 case.
