Gun Photo Background Color??

Of all the background colors/textures to photograph a gun, what do you think brings out the best of the gun and has the most eye appeal to a potential buyer?

  Best is a Light Blue or a Off White.
  Dark colors like Red and Black tend to lessen the contrast.
  
  Dont use Counter tops with other items in Back grround. Stay away from patterns that distract (Camo, winkled fabric), shiny backgrounds like Glass or polished laminated floors.

  Best scenario:
  Outdoors. Daytime. Open shade.
  
  If you describe a dent, or a nick, or anything, back up what you've just said with a tight in-focus that's In-Focus photograph of the item you've just described. The best auction presentations will be cause for no E-mail questions..and that takes some selling experience. Good luck!! Best, Joe

  Below is a photo I took in order to show the forum the wrist area of the stock on my rifle.
  
  Here's the technique I used. I took a tight shot with an open aperture and a faster shutter speed (will take some experimentation). This allowed for the subject to be in focus, with the background somewhat blurred, and the object that I was presenting to the viewing public is what the viewer's eye was drawn to. Hope I helped.   I have very limited camera knowledge, but I get the best pictures outdoors, or when there is a lot of natural light within the home. I think most any solid color like white, light blue, or green, for example, works well. The color that works best for me where I have been taking pictures lately is green; see the following example of two pictures taken about the same time with different colored backgrounds:

  Whatever you do don't lay the gun on the floor, stand over it and include pictures of your naked nasty feet![:D]

  I have found that the best background color is light grey. Light blue and green also work well. A white background should never be used as it creates too much contrast. Also, and as someelse pointed out, indirect lighting outdoors (natural light) is far superior to indoor lighting (unless you are a professional photographer with a studio).

  I always use a white background, you can add the color later if that's what you want.
