anyone actually worn out a new ak or akm?

anyone actually worn out a new ak or akm to the point of failure, and in that unlikely event, what failed or lead to the failure, any parts coming off or noticeably worked loose, cracking etc, any particular makes or models?

    I had a Poly Tech stamped reciever that failed because the rails that the bolt carrier rides on were improperly hardened. The one on the right side of the reciever broke, and part of it came up out of alignment with the rest. Fortunately I get to play with a vast array of neat equipment in my line of work, and was able to remove the rails, create a jig, and weld in new ones. That was a failure that most would have just tossed the gun.

    I have heard of gas pistons breaking, and some pins coming out, an extractor or bolt, but those parts are readily replacable. I am not sure what other than melting down a barrel, and plugging the gas port, or exploding the barrel would make one fail.

    Actually there were about 22K rounds thru it when it failed. Yes it was brand spanking new in the box. I had bunch of them, and a bunch of milled recievers that were all NIB. I didn't take any pictures of the broken rail, but I might be able to get you some pictures of the repair. I sold the rifle to a friend of mine who really wanted it, and he has moved to Virginia...so he now can own fully functional AK-47's, and M-16's/M-4's.

    yeah, i remember you mentioning something about that, very interesting and was this a new akm and also considering the improper hardening process, strange for a polytech, about how many rounds would you say approximately were fired through the rifle before the failure occurred? any pics by chance of the failure and then your repair?

    XM16E1/M16 torture tests:
    Several Army ordinance tests done to the general rifle. 20K round reliability tests. Found was the need to strengthen ejector spring, strengthen extractor spring, and a few examples of replacing extractors, and extractor pin upgrading (new coating).

    Also, barrel wear determination tests. Rejection was set at .003 over optimal and the rejection wear extended about six inches from rifling origination (which ever occured first). Test reached fail values after greater than 20K rounds.

    From previous (black rifle post):
    In the mid-60's the TDP was for sale by Colt to the Army for eight million dollars. Colt held the TDP rights, and the Army wanted the TDP. Can't say if the Army finally got the TDP for true MILSPEC outsourcing (which they wanted-including foreign contracting of parts).

    Colt also (mid-60's) applied to the Army for contract variances. Most were rejected, some approved. There are more, but the one's approved that caught my eye were the request to use barrels 1 (one) point softer on the Rockwell scale, Hammer springs ~.003 larger (internal dimension), and front sight bases with out-of-spec (large) chamfers.     Well, as said above the rails will eventually wear out, and so will the tigger mech and return spring. I have always been told that an ak has a 25000-35000 round lifespan.. A cousin of mine had an old chinese gun that had been shot probably 20000 times, and when he set it on its butstock to hard it discharged.

    would really like to see some pics, if possible that would be good.
    thanks for the military service appreciation, i too thank all of our veterans for their altruistic act of allegiance to our country, even though the government is full of traitorous scum that should be tried and hung.

    not at all givette, thank you and please follow up on that too, as its always good to have an alternate comparison and which is what i did in the beginning of the ak47 akm milled and stamped rifle receivers argument, lol.

    I recall a video someone sent me, probably you-tube of a guy shooting a full-auto AK until the forward handguard and grip caught fire. He continued shooting several more mags & drums while it was burning and the gun still fired OK.

    Dont know what happened to the AK in terms of damage.

    hell yeah, and i believe that was an akm too, adding to the fact that akm rifles are badass, contrary to popular belief that they are not as good as the milled rifles.

    you just cant argue with that evidence, definitely a military rifle that does its job and kicks ass.

    I caught one on fire twice and pretty much toasted the hand guard but the little mud gun kept shooting... If you are tying to were one out threw normal shooting I wish you luck and suggest you bring a lot of ammo.

    The shooter is a class 3 builder dealer and AR15.com member. The AK was a dealer sample he built in FA.

    I've lost track on how many tens of thousands of rounds I have through my Sar 1. A usual day shooting with it was 500rds. Most of that was fired rapidly. Now my 4 builds are taking all the range time up and the Sar 1 is shot less often.
