military marked commercial luger?
I have a luger that I have some questions about and was hoping you could help answer them.
It is in about 95% original condition with the crown N proof marks throughout with all matching numbers including an aluminum bottom Haenel-Schmeiser magazine. The straw coloring on the trigger, safety, and takedown latch is about 50%.
I understand all this,or so I think, what I don't understand is this; It has the Weimar eagle over the number 66 and what appears to be unit markings on the front strap of L.H.36. Does anybody know what all this means? Can anybody tell me about the unit markings? Does anyone have an idea what the gun is worth? I do know it was a vet bring back, because I have seen the papers, which are sadly gone.

I'm going to go with the commercial lead, but would be nice to have the chamber date, and the front toggle stamping.
Please tell us if it has the little "clip" that was placed over the sear. Can be identified by a little rivet-head when the sear boss (left side of gun) is viewed from the top.
With written description only, my read:
Police service "Luger". Pressed into service for WWII, and captured/surrendered at the close. Frontstrap marking may be the Staazpolezei district it was issued to. Best, Joe

Yes it does have the little clip head that Joe mentioned. The toggle is DWM marked and it has a blank chamber.

According to John Walter (My only Luger reference, I am not a collector.), LH36 is a police marking for Landjagerei (rural police "county mountie") in the Hanover district, gun no 36.
Eagle/66 is for Waffenamt 66, thought to be the inspector for police weapons transferred to the army in 1935.0 -
