sar, wasr or other akm?

given the choice i would lean toward the sar given the varients you already own. a wasr would be a step down for sure, due to low quality control on the wasr canted sights and gasblocks. plus the dimples was a design to strenghten the magwell opening area of the akm .wasr's were designed for single stack mags and when rails are thinned to accept double stack mags it weakens the receiver but since it wont see combat its likely a nonissue but you can't beat the price of a wasr. saiga's are high quality but built for sporting configuration and take quite a bit of work to reconfigure to military
appearence i consider a arsenal milled at the top of the food chain of the variants

given the consideration to checking for the obvious canted sights and canted gas ports and such; when i handled the akm rifles they seemed like sturdy, bare bones, inexpensive, military semi auto rifles to me.

    edit:
not seeing alot of sars, are they being imported or are the only imports from romania now the wasr?

do the sar or wasr rifles accept drum mags?

Go for the SAR. The WASR's are thesinglestack models with the hollowed out mag wells to accept the double stack. They kind of look like bubba done it. Those are the ones that do not have the dimples to support the doublestack magazines also. Stay away from anything that says Hesse, Blackthorne, or Vulcan on them, and the ones being assembled by Century Arms International(WASR's), are prone to canted sights. Their quality is hit and miss...eventhough they can be made to be reliable...I had one that I had to deburr the hammer and disconnector on.

I do agree, that having an Arsenal in your arsenal(punn intended), kind of makes any of the one you listed seem smallish or lessor.

    Best

    EDIT 1:

Yes...anything that will accept the doublestack magazine will also accept the drum.

You might think about doing an EDIT to your original post, instead of doing a new post to the thread. That way you can answer everyone, and get more answers back, as this forum usually locks out the thread at 10 posts...just a suggestion.

yeah, like i said they seemed okay when i have checked them out before with no noticeable problems and they were very sturdy and even the fit and finish wasn't bad. i didn't get to fire them though, but from what i have heard and seen they seem okay for a basic military akm, although i have heard about the canting sight and gas port issues however i haven't seen it and so i would have to insist that was checked first.

what would you say the best akm would be then polytech, norinco, arsenal?

why does there seem to be so few romanian sar rifles?

tsr1965, read your emails, no problems its all good.

If you already have stamped Norincos and Polytechs, you are familiar with dimpled receivers and can see without explanation what they do.
What are you really asking and what do you want to do with another AK semi auto that you can't do with those you "have"?

yeah, that wasnt a question it was a statement as to the differences that i noticed between the sar and wasr.
well, norinco is chinese and the sar and wasr are romanian and being that i dont "have" any romanian akms i thought that they might be nice european akm's to own perhaps.
    hope that answers your questions.

The nice thing about the newer wasr's is they have all the evil features - bayonette lug and threaded barrel with slant brake. Some of them have Tapco G2 fire control groups already installed.

As long as you can check the barrels for cant, you should be fine with a Wasr.

The Sar rifles are no longer imported.

Since you already have AK's in 7.62x39. You might want to look into a 5.45x39 rifle. That ammo is still significantly cheaper than 7.62x39.

there are some nice russian akm's in 7.62x39mm that i could consider as well that seem nice, of course they are more expensive.

dont spend a arm and a leg. prices on ak's have dropped like crazy. i just sold a very nice sar1 for $500 and that took me a month and had to sell to a friend. wasr 10's are down to $550 new. if you are trying to sell one you will play hell getting $450. sks's are moving faster? my buying price now for a used one is $350 - $400.
