HK P2000 .40 S&W heavy trigger pull

Just bought my first handgun. After moving the slide back and releasing it , the first trigger pull is very smooth and easy. The next trigger pulls are very hard. I have no ammo in the gun, and it has not been fired , except from the factory. Is this normal being this heavy ? and can it be adjusted?

    I have a usp compact with the lea trigger set up. It is the same way. When you pull back the slide you are cocking the gun. When you pull the trigger on an empty chamber there is nothing to make the slide recoil and thus making the next time you pull the trigger a double action pull which is longer and harder than the single. Once you put live ammo in and shoot it every shot will be like the first. I don't know about yours but on mine this gives a second strike capability on a misfired shell. Hope this helps and hope you enjoy your h&k as much as I do mine.

    Hello Jason,

    Gashauler is correct: firing live ammo will cock the action after each shot, and give you the same trigger pull consistantly.
