derringer

picked up a 38 sp derringer marked bTj on left side Hamden CT usa on left side also has D/A very similar to american derringer model DA any body know anything about this one its not in any reference book I own THANX RICK it is ss wood grips

    I received a derringer when my uncle died. It is a 357 magnum. It has Maverick across the top of the barrel, wooden handles and the serial number is 522. It is shown on top of the barrel and right in front of the left handle. It says Intercontinental Arms on the left side of the barrel, and A. Uberti & C. Gardone V.T. Italy on the right side of the barrel. Below the serial number on the side of the gun it also has XIX and what appears to be PSF under a symbol I cannot make out. I have shot it several times and it shoots great. Any idea what it is worth? Everything seems to be in very good shape and the wooden handles are intact. Thanks.

    It was made in the early 60's, before the Gun Control Act of 1968 stopped the importation of small handguns into the U.S.

    You might try checking the 2 large on-line gun auctions for similar Italian made Derringers, that have sold recently. To get a handle on the ballpark value.

    As I recall the Uberti made Mavericks were large very good quality Derringers, with case hardened frames. It would be something one of the SASS/Cowboy action shooters would be happy to have.

    These days Uberti makes top-of-the-line reproduction Civil War black powder pistols.

    I'm sure that your derringer is of high quality.

    I would like to have one of those, a .357 derringer would be a handy thing to have.

    The Maverick is a pretty good derringer from a reputable company, Uberti makes many CAS guns and is now a division of Beretta.

    XIX is the Italian date code for 1963.
    PSF is a standard Italian proof mark.

    I once owned the same model as well as many other derringers. (a poor man's collection.)That one was by far the best. It is larger ,but case hardened and walnut grips. A beautiful piece and excellent quality! I foolishly traded it off with my other derringers. Live and learn.
