Need help-High Standard Sentinel R-107

High Standard Sentinel R-107 Double action trigger pull very, very heavy. Unless trigger pulled very hard and sharpely it usually "locks" about half way in cycle, and will not complete cycle and fire. At times even if trigger is pulled hard and sharpely it "lock" up. When it "locks" up and trigger is released foward, it will usually function with next pull of trigger. Sometims it reqires two or more pulls and release of trigger for it to function in double action. Works flawless as a single action. With cylinder open it operates flawless in double action. Hate to take down without being aware of cause as I have heard this are difficult to work on. Any assistance will be appreciated.

    From your discription of the function (or lack of) I would take a close look at the 'hand'. When the trigger is pulled in double action, it not only cocks the hammer but also rotates the cylinder. The piece that engages the ratchet notches in the rear of the cylinder is called the hand. The hand rides in a slot & is held forward by a spring so it will maintain contact with the cylinder as the trigger moves it up. In the rotary motion of the cylinder, it can cause sideways pressure on the hand. Any wear in the pin at the base of the hand will cause excessive wear/drag between the hand & the sides of the notch in the frame that it rides in. Look for uneven surfaces on the side of the hand, on the edges of it's groove, & any sideways play.

    If a new hand or pin is required, be sure to check timing before firing again.

    Took it down, I could not find possible problems of wear on hand, pin or sides of notch as you described. Any other suggestions? This pistol has not seen much usage and is in VG condition.
