.32 Winchester Special

I just bought one and I want to know some info on the round. Is it a pretty good cartridge? It looks like a 30-30, is it pretty much the same thing? Is it good for whitetail?

  The 32 Winchester Special (W.S.) is a near ballistic clone to the more common 30 W.C.F. (a.k.a. 30-30 Win). Both were originally factory loaded with a 170-grain FP bullet, with the 30 W.C.F. @1960 fps, and the 32 W.S. @2050 fps.
  
  Yes, it is good for whitetail deer and similar sized game animals.

  As noted, the .32 Win Spec is essentially a .30-30 with a slightly larger diameter bullet. The rifling twist is slower however, and this has contributed to a good number of .32 WS guns becoming rather inaccurate once the bore starts to wear somewhat. That problem is of course confounded by the bad design of the WInchester 94 that requires cleaning from the muzzle end unless you are willing to go through a tedious disassembly each time. On the good side, the .32 WS has less of a tendency than the .30-30 to generate excessive headspace in a model 94.

  I believe Hornady is loading some of their soft tip bullets for the .32 though I haven't seen any locally yet.
  Should be a good load. Now if we can just the bullets as components.........[:(][:(]

  I got a couple of boxes of 32 leverlution ammo from sportsmans guide but haven't fired any yet.

  I use a bore snake which eliminates dis-assembly on a regular basis and allows me to clean the gun before leaving the range.

  If you haven't already seen it, you may want to check out the August issue of Shooting Times. Lane Pearce has a nice little write-up on the .32 that includes comparative ballistics with the 30-30 and loading data for cast and jacketed bullets.
